Everyone who had done any sort of work in their home has a toolbox. You know, a box, mostly disorganised, contains several dozen “backup” screws, a handful of allen wrenches and a screwdriver set.

Working a little bit on any software can very quickly become a game of whack-a-mole - switching between tabs with “unix timestamp to ISO UTC converter”, “CIDR calculator”, “IP Lookup” tools.

How much time does it actually take to learn any of those individual things? Maybe a day or two, or it’s just a tedious calculation no one conscious will do by hand.

Go ahead and do the thing you’re supposed to do.

I know it does sound like some Kung-fu Panda advice, and it is.

If you want to be a Productivity Influencer though, the steps are pretty simple:

Make lists/steps
Show off
Give your tips marketable names
Complify and simplicate

1. Make lists

This one’s pretty straightforward. Just organise the advice you want to give in a list and it would be so much more appealing. My guess is that we humans have a connection between lists and “being organised”, so you can project your “authority” by creating a “plan”.

First and foremost, please, make use of a digital calendar. You already spend 9-12 hours of your day peering into a screen, and developed a Pavlovian response to the push notification sound of your particular device. The amount of people I’ve noticed putting their class schedule as their lock screen background is alarming.
